Early Years First Aid

Who is this course for?Nursery workers and Play Group leaders Course objectivesOn completion of training, successful candidates should be able to: - understand the role of the First Aider, including reference to:
- the importance of preventing cross infection - the need for recording incidents and actions - use of available equipment - assess the situation in order to act safely, promptly and effectively in an emergency
- administer cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (children and babies)
- administer First Aid to a casualty who is unconscious (including seizure)
- administer First Aid to a casualty who is choking or having respiratory problems
- administer First Aid to a casualty who is wounded or bleeding
- administer First Aid to a casualty who is suffering from shock
- recognise and take appropriate action in the event of serious illness
- provide treatment for minor injuries.
Duration/ format12 hours over 2 days or maximum of 6 weeks each session to last 2 hours. Course content- assessing situations and taking appropriate action, including informing the emergency services
- reporting Accidents in the work place
- requirements of First Aid kit and the prevention of cross infection
- Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation
- secondary survey/recovery position
- airway and breathing problems
- recognising and treating shock
- wounds and bleeding
- minor injuries, burns and scalds
- extremes of body temperature
- major illnesses / medical conditions
